Gateway Arena - College Park, Ga

CLIENTS:
+ TVS DESIGN
+ CHOATE, INC.
+ CITY OF COLLEGE PARK
+ ATLANTA AIRPORT DISTRICT

Shoot Date:
11.19.19

Description: Located in the city of College Park, the Gateway Center Arena is a new multipurpose arena that represents a solution for mid-market municipalities and universities with a need for an indoor venue to host a variety of public assembly events like live entertainment, corporate meetings, athletics, esports, trade shows, and convocations. With the Atlanta Hawks G League team as the destination’s anchor tenant and serving as home to the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream, the venue is projected to be a significant economic driver for the area. Operated by the Georgia International Convention Center in partnership with the Fox Theatre, the 100,000 sf arena is initially set up with 3,500 seats with 360-degree seating. Capacity can be expanded up to 5,000 for concerts and events.

The building boasts a soundproof experience despite its location in the flight path of nearby Hartsfield Jackson International Airport (planes pass overhead about every 39 seconds, on average.) To accomplish this, the arena was constructed of thick concrete precast walls on the exterior with extra building components to make it a more solid mass. Special acoustical insulation was installed in the ceiling along with a double-layered exterior curtain to help filter out noise. — Excerpt from TVS’s case study

Shooting challenges: Not only was this a massive space that we had to plan our shots accordingly based on the sun, but also had to work around construction progress, the team’s practice schedule, and other 3rd party photographers on-site as well. Additionally, since the building is literally next to the airport, no drones could be used to get any of the exteriors.

Shooting challenges: Major time restraints and patient privacy. Since the clinic side was open to the public, we could only shoot during off-hours…aka…the crack of dawn. Luckily we were able to take advantage of the gorgeous sunrise!

HOK Atlanta HQ

CLIENTS:
+ HOK
+ LEAPLEY CONSTRUCTION

Shoot Date:
9.6.19

Description: Renovation of their corporate headquarters located in downtown Atlanta. This project was recently awarded in 2020 “Best of the Best” by IIDA GA for Best Corporate Project Over 75K sf.

Shooting Challenges: Combatting the massive reflections from the windows on many different types of surfaces made for many exposures where we had to flag and block the window light. Also, large conference tables can sometimes be a bit tricky to capture. They must be shot at a certain height and angle to prevent it from taking up too much space in the frame or making it seem like there is just a sea of wood. It gave us a good run for our money but ultimately we were able to pull off some great views.

Allsteel - Multi-Project Shoot in St. Louis, MO

CLIENTS:

+ INSTINCT - NATURE’S VARIETY

Shoot Date:
8.27-30.19

Description: Multi-project shoot in St. Louis for three Allsteel installations. You can view Instinct by Nature’s Variety - Allsteel Project Profile for additional information.

Shooting Challenges: It took significant advanced planning with members of the Allsteel team as well as each individual office to coordinate the shoot so we could knock out all three while we were in town. We had very different goals for each shoot including a lifestyle day shoot with some of the executives at Nature’s Variety. I’m a huge dog lover so having the chance to incorporate dogs into the photographs was the most fun I’ve ever had on a shoot!

Office Images Showroom Renovation

CLIENTS:
+ OFFICE IMAGES
+ PERKINS & WILL
+ CA SOUTH

Shoot Date:
8.17.19

Description: Renovation of their new showroom located in Roswell, Ga. This was a special project for me to shoot because Office Images is where I actually began my career. It was my first job out of college and working there introduced me to the great big world of contract furniture and the architecture and design industry as a whole. While I left OI many years ago, the relationships that I made there were longlasting and significantly impactful on my professional career. This project was a MAJOR facelift for the space that used to be dark, divided, and cramped. The OI in-house design team did the majority of the interior design and did such a fantastic job that I barely recognized it when I first saw it. (Check out some shots below of what the space used to look like). When it came time to photograph their new space, I wouldn’t let them hire anyone else but me to capture it. :)

Shooting Challenges: Not many. This space was fairly easy to capture since it was an open floorplan design and was so bright and beautiful. There were some big reflections to deal with from all the glass walls, but they were a breeze to handle.

+ HITT CONTRACTING

Shoot Date:
7.13.19

Description: Renovation of their corporate headquarters located in the Resurgens Plaza in Buckhead.

Shooting Challenges: The main focal piece of the office was a gorgeous spiral staircase. Finding the best angles to capture this iconic element proved to be much more challenging than it seemed. We were able to successfully capture it in a way that shows off its sleek design while still giving the viewer a sense of how it fits into the overall context of the space.

Jackson Healthcare

CLIENTS:
+ CHOATE CONSTRUCTION
+ RJTR
+ KNOLL
+ CORPORATE ENVIRONMENTS

Shoot Date:
Feb/March 2019

Description: Jackson Healthcare’s new $100 million campus expansion project, featuring a new eight-story office tower and three-story amenities building. The amenities facility, inspired by the Roman Colosseum, houses a state-of-the-art fitness and wellness center that features an indoor pool, two levels of cardio and strength equipment, in-person and virtual fitness classes, a spray-tanning studio, massage and chiropractic services, and forthcoming offerings that will include a hair salon with blow dry bar and nail services. Within the space, there also are two restaurants that offer healthy, locally-sourced, company-subsidized breakfast and lunch options every weekday, as well as a coffee and smoothie bar. The amenities building is the centerpiece of an Italian piazza, complete with fountains and a 1,385-car parking deck designed to resemble the buildings that line the Piazza del Campo in Siena.

Shooting Challenges: This project was massive. It took about 4 full days of shooting to capture everything and over 90 final composite images were delivered! Also, since we were trying to shoot before the new space was occupied, we had to work around a significant amount of construction as well.

Centennial Olympic Park Rennovation

CLIENTS:
+ DTJ DESIGN

Shoot Date:
PHASE I - MAY 2018
PHASE II - MAY 2019

Description: DTJ is designing significant improvements to Centennial Olympic Park, providing updates to the physical structures, function, vistas, and connectivity of the Park, including the creation of a pedestrian gateway stretching from the edge of the downtown hotel corridor to the front steps of the College Football Hall of Fame. These improvements are categorized in five transformative project areas and assure preservation of Centennial Olympic Park’s legacy as a national icon. Centennial Olympic Park hosts a variety of events, from corporate receptions and picnics to major concerts and festivals. The Park is located adjacent to the Georgia World Congress Center and has spurred major growth and activity in surrounding areas.

EARLY BELIEVER’S TRIBUTE — The main design elements of the Tribute include; specialty hardscape paving (to amend one side of the existing plaza), a custom iconic precast concrete column with embedded bronze plaque with a quote and listing the “Atlanta Nine” contributor names and the original “Five-A’s” and Olympic Rings in bronze sculptural form atop the column capital and bronze pedestal. The design also features a matched pair of curved granite-clad benches with the “Early Believer’s” names, and a quotation, incised with gold metallic finish in the seatback of the benches and adorned with etched design motifs from the original “Look of the Games” graphics. Accent lighting and augmented landscape plantings behind the bench enhance the design.

Shooting Challenges: PARK EVENT CALENDAR/CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULES/WEATHER — This project required some patience! Working around the busy event calendar of the park along with the major construction schedule meant we could only shoot on days that neither one of them interfered with the shots. Additionally, in those short windows, we had to cross our fingers that it was beautiful weather. It took a full year to be able to capture all of the areas, free of major distractions and on a nice sunny day. Drone coverage was supplied for this job as well.

CLIENTS:
+ HKS ARCHITECTS
+ FITZGERALD COLLABORATIVE
+ CORGAN
+ SKANSKA
+ ACUITY LIGHTING
+ CEILINGS PLUS
+ SESCO LIGHTING

Shoot Date:
4.16.19

Description: HKS was the managing partner of a three-way joint venture with Corgan and Fitzgerald Collaborative GroupTo tasks to update and modernize a busy hub airport to increase comfort and amenities for more than 100 million passengers each year, without interrupting airport and airline operations.

The project featured 1,200,000 square foot interior modernization of concourses A, B, C and T that included new materials for ceilings, floors, lighting and seating along with new exterior cladding system allowing increased daylight and views. Check out the full case-study done by HKS for additional information.

Shooting Challenges: SECURITY/TIMING/SCALE - There was a significant amount of pre-shoot planning, paperwork, and vetting that needed to be done before we even arrived on site. When it finally came time for the shoot, getting through the special vendor security was quite the process. Additionally, since Hartsfield Jackson is one of the busiest airports in the world, we were only allowed to shoot from 1am - 2pm which meant we needed a LOT of coffee. Once the shoot began, we had to adhere to a strict schedule of natural sun positioning in addition to shops and flight schedules to avoid the most people. I’m pretty sure we walked about 7 miles that day, all whist pushing a cart full of gear. It was an exhausting shoot but at the end of the day it was just plane fun! ;)

Methodist University Hospital - Memphis, TN

CLIENTS:
+ HKS ARCHITECTS
+ TURNER CONSTRUCTION
+ SELF & TUCKER ARCHITECTS
+ METHODIST UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

Shoot Date:
4.10.19

Description: Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare engaged the Integrated Project Delivery team of Turner Construction Company, HKS, Self-Tucker Architects, TME, and archimania to execute its $300-million campus master plan, located at the corner of Eastmoreland Avenue and Bellevue Boulevard.

This multi-phased modernization combines the Cancer Center on Union Avenue with hospital-based inpatient and surgical services, creating one comprehensive cancer center. The 450,000 square foot, nine-story Shorb Tower provides the additional space necessary to upgrade services within the hospital. The tower was built on top of the existing hospital emergency department, which remained operational throughout construction.

Shooting Challenges: At the time of the shoot, there was still a great deal of construction consequently leaving many exterior obstacles in front of the building that couldn’t be moved. An extensive amount of retouching was done to remove these elements. See some of the before and after images below.
